Fly that flag!
It’s Flag Day! The day that honors the national flag and commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. It came about because in 1885 Bernard J. Cigrand, a schoolteacher from Wisconsin schoolteacher, encouraged his students to observe June 14 as the flag’s birthday. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson made the date official and in 1949 the U.S. Congress permanently established the date as National Flag Day. So you might ask what’s the point? Well because the stars and stripes are the the symbol of the USA, also the symbol of independence!
I know you’re wondering “what’s she going to say about Flag Day and skincare?” Okay you got me, it’s a tricky one but reading up about this fine tradition made me think about the great icon Betsy Ross who used to make flags in the Revolutionary War. 100 years later according to her grandson had been approached by three men in June of 1776. General George Washington, financier of the Revolutionary War Robert Morris and her relative Colonel George Ross. She was allegedly presented with a sketch of a flag that featured 13 red and white stripes and 13 six-pointed stars, and was asked if she could create a flag to match. She suggested arranging the stars in a circle and making them 5 points not 6. So there you have it the stars and stripes was supposedly born, but what about our own stars and stripes problems?
By that I mean those lovely freckles that make constellations all over our skin when we are sun damaged. Or those stripes from stretch marks and acne scars. How do we deal with them today? First of all sun protection, a great diet and lots of water. Secondly upping the collagen-building ante through Morpheus8 RF Microneedling and good fats and protein-rich foods. Thirdly IPL to zap those hyperpigmentation marks and even out the skin tone, there are lots of options available! See I told you I’d get there in the end!
